How long have you been serving in Costa Rica?
I came to Costa Rica after graduating from Taylor University (IN) in June of 2005.
What are your primary areas of ministry responsibility?
Micro Business Developement. There is a group of ladies from our churches in Los Guido and Tejarcillos that meet each week to hand make cards, bookmarks, magnets, etc. with dried leaves and flowers that they go into the mountains to collect. These are then sold to help provide a small income for the families.
Older Teen Group. There is a precious group of young people ages 16-24 that meet weekly to play games,
share a meal, and study the Bible. I am coordinating this group and teaching the young ladies during the study time.
English Classes. I am teaching English classes in Tejarcillos.
The New Hope Center. I am working with our team member, Brooke McClain, on a project called Nueva Esperanza (The New Hope Center) to give hope to young, single, teen mothers. There is a great need for this kind of center in Tejarcillos, where 13, 14, and 15 year old girls are getting pregnant. The purpose of the
center is to break the cycle of poverty, not only physical but also spiritual, while teaching them how to
be a responsible, Godly mother.
Teaching Responsiblities. Of course, I am teaching in discipleship groups, many of which are focused in the new are of La Carpio. I hope to start soon classes to teach the youth to read and write since many of them are not in school in this area. In addition, I am also leading a Why Wait type of purity study with the youth leaders and the older teens group.
Hospitality Coordinator. I oversee the new CLFCR mission house and am living there to serve the many teams and families that come the serve the Lord with us and visit us. I am the team coordinator which includes following up with the missions teams after they leave Costa Rica.
